Invert FAQ
Inverts need their diet managed just as much as fish, something often overlooked.
As with fish and corals we tailor our feeding to the demands of the individual animal but some general examples include.
Algae grazers: We rotate rocks into our coral farm so that the algae film can develop. We also supplement with a grazing 'pellet'.
Long Algae Eaters: Are supplemented with 'nori' strips as well as rocks, grazing pellets and special foods.
Detritivores: Are fed a blend of marine pellets. We also maintain a complex microfauna with active seeding of copepod and amphipod species. Our starfish for example have an all they can eat buffet whilst with us.
Carnivores: Specialist carnivores such as our Mantis Shrimp are fed enriched live feeder shrimp just like our predatory fish.
Specialists: Many inverts have special diets, for example our Harlequin shrimp need a constant supply of asterina. As such we maintain a supply of these pest stars which we feed to our Harlequins! At some point we aim to make these commercially available to all of our customers too.
Invert welfare is our highest priority.
All DOA's must be reported within 1 hour with photographs whereupon full credit to the value of the DOA will be given.
Reports must be timely with photographs as DOA's are extremely rare and each is investigated in full to prevent reoccurances
