Alien Warrior Acantho Coral Care | The Happy Reef

Alien Warrior Acantho is a spectacular showpiece LPS with the huge, fleshy mantle and bold colouration that make Acanthos such impressive sandbed corals. When fully settled and inflated, the tissue develops deep folds and can expand dramatically beyond the size of the skeleton underneath.

Despite its size, an Acantho is essentially one enormous coral polyp with a central mouth. Acanthophyllia deshayesiana is one of the largest solitary corals regularly kept in reef aquariums, and mature specimens can become exceptional centrepieces.

Flow: Low. Gentle, indirect water movement allows the large fleshy mantle to remain fully inflated and show its natural shape.

Placement: Sandbed

Feeding: Beneficial. Acanthos are photosynthetic but are also impressive feeders. They readily accept mysis, finely chopped seafood and suitable LPS foods. Occasional target feeding can support growth, inflation and condition, with smaller portions
