Beau’s Fairy Wrasse
Cirrhilabrus beauperryi
Beau’s Fairy Wrasse is a beautifully coloured and relatively uncommon fairy wrasse from the Western Pacific. Mature males can develop an impressive mixture of purple, blue, green and yellow tones, with metallic spotting across the body and elongated pelvic fins.
Like other fairy wrasses, it is an active fish that spends much of the day swimming in the open water above and around the rockwork. Despite the striking colours, it remains a fairly small species, making it a great choice for a well-established reef aquarium.
Beau’s Fairy Wrasses are generally peaceful and can be kept alongside a wide variety of reef-safe community fish. Some territorial behaviour can occur with other fairy wrasses, particularly between similar species or males, so introductions should be planned carefully.
They are completely reef safe and will not intentionally damage corals or sessile invertebrates. Feed a varied diet of appropriately sized meaty foods including mysis, enriched brine shrimp and quality frozen or prepared marine foods.
A secure lid is essential. Like virtually all fairy wrasses, they are exceptionally capable jumpers, particularly when startled or settling into a new aquarium.
Why We Like It
This is a fantastic fairy wrasse for anyone wanting plenty of colour without a particularly large fish. Mature males can become spectacular, combining purple and blue across the body with contrasting yellow and green tones and beautiful metallic markings.
