The Birdmouth Wrasse is a striking and highly active predator, instantly recognised by its long, beak-like snout and graceful swimming style. Constantly on the move, it patrols the aquarium searching for crustaceans and other small prey hidden amongst the rockwork.

This intelligent species is best suited to larger marine aquariums with plenty of open swimming space and secure rockwork. Juveniles are generally peaceful, but as they mature they become increasingly predatory and should only be housed with similarly sized tank mates.

Although completely safe with corals, the Birdmouth Wrasse is not suitable for reef aquariums containing ornamental shrimp, crabs or other mobile invertebrates, and very small fish may also become prey as it reaches adulthood.

Feeding: Offer a varied diet including prawns, mysis, chopped mussel, squid, lancefish and other meaty marine foods, together with quality carnivore pellets where accepted. Regular feeding will help maintain excellent condition and natural behaviour.
