Description
Bleeding Apple Lobophyllia is a colourful fleshy brain coral combining vivid green with contrasting red pigmentation ? the classic colour pairing behind the ?Bleeding Apple? name. Its large, inflated polyps form thick valleys and folds, giving the colony plenty of texture as well as colour.
Lobophyllia are often called Lobed or Open Brain Corals. What appears to be one continuous fleshy surface can contain multiple mouths and underlying skeletal valleys, with the tissue expanding considerably beyond the shape of the skeleton when the coral is fully inflated.
