Type: LPS
Scientific Name: Euphyllia glabrescens
PAR: 100?200
Flow: Moderate, random flow
Placement: Mid Third
Description
Blue Tip Torch is a flowing Torch Coral selected for the cool blue colouration at the ends of its long tentacles. The contrasting tips become particularly noticeable under blue-spectrum reef lighting, while the extended tentacles add constant movement to the aquarium.
Despite Hammers and Frogspawn being moved into Fimbriaphyllia, true Torch Corals remain within the genus Euphyllia. Euphyllia glabrescens occurs naturally across a wide area of the Indo-Pacific and has become one of the most recognisable LPS corals in the reef hobby.
Why We Like It
It?s the cooler colour palette that makes this one stand out. Blue tips are a great contrast to the greens, yellows and golds found in many other Torches, while you still get all of that characteristic Torch movement. It works particularly well as part of a mixed Torch collection where the different colours can be appreciated side by side.
Care Notes
Provide stable reef parameters with consistent alkalinity, calcium and magnesium. Moderate, changing flow encourages good extension and natural movement. Primarily photosynthetic, but occasional small meaty or suitable coral foods can support growth and the development of additional heads.
