Eyespot Goby

Signigobius bicellatus

The Eyespot Goby is one of the most distinctive sand-sifting gobies available, recognised by the pair of striking eyespots on its dorsal fin and its elegant, elongated fins. Peaceful and fascinating to watch, it spends much of the day methodically sifting sand in search of tiny invertebrates while helping to keep the substrate clean and aerated.

This species is best suited to mature aquariums with a well-established sand bed rich in natural microfauna. It can be delicate when first introduced, so a settled aquarium and regular feeding are important for long-term success. Plenty of open sand, secure rockwork and a tightly fitting lid are recommended.

Completely reef safe, the Eyespot Goby is an excellent choice for peaceful reef aquariums, although its sand-sifting behaviour may occasionally result in sand being deposited onto corals positioned close to the substrate.
