Description

Forest Fire Mushrooms are a colourful Rhodactis morph combining a vivid green base with dense orange to fiery red tentacles across the surface. As the mushroom expands, the green shows through between the warmer-coloured tentacles, creating the glowing ember-like contrast behind the Forest Fire name.

Unlike the relatively smooth surface of a Discosoma, Rhodactis mushrooms have a much more textured oral disc covered in short tentacle-like structures. They're corallimorphs rather than true stony corals, so despite their coral-like biology they don't produce a hard calcium-carbonate skeleton.

Why We Like It

Forest Fires are brilliant little mushrooms. The orange-red over fluorescent green gives them loads of colour, while the textured Rhodactis surface makes them much more interesting close up than a smooth mushroom. They're also great for building a colourful mushroom garden as they multiply.

Care Notes

Forest Fire Rhodactis are hardy and generally favour moderate to lower lighting with gentler flow. They're photosynthetic and don't require direct feeding, although they can readily capture suitable foods. Established mushrooms can multiply across the surrounding rockwork.
