Joker Torch Coral Care | The Happy Reef
Joker Torch is a striking named Torch Coral morph, prized for its contrasting fluorescent green and purple colouration. The combination gives the coral its Joker-inspired name, while the long flowing tentacles provide the constant movement that makes Torches such impressive feature corals.
Torch Corals belong to the genus Euphyllia. Interestingly, while Hammers and Frogspawn were moved from Euphyllia into Fimbriaphyllia following taxonomic revision, Torches remained within Euphyllia.
Scientific Name: Euphyllia glabrescens
PAR: 100?200
Flow: Moderate. Random, indirect flow that keeps the long tentacles gently swaying without continuously pushing them in one direction is ideal.
Placement: Mid Third
Feeding: Beneficial but not essential. Torch Corals are strongly photosynthetic but will also capture small meaty foods and suitable coral foods. Occasional feeding can support growth and the development of additional heads.
Care Notes: Give a Torch plenty of room from neighbouring corals as its long tentacles carry a powerful sting. Stable alkalinity, calcium and magnesium, moderate lighting and varied flow provide excellent conditions for full extension, strong growth and vibrant colour.
