Leaf Scorpionfish
Scientific Name: Taenianotus triacanthus
Notes:
A master of disguise, the Leaf Scorpionfish mimics a dead or drifting leaf, using its flattened, asymmetrical body and subtle rocking motion to ambush prey. It sits motionless on rockwork or rubble, blending with algae or corals. Colours vary from white and yellow to brown, pink, or green. Venomous spines are present but not dangerous unless mishandled. Does best in peaceful tanks where it won’t be outcompeted for food. Accepts frozen foods like mysis once trained.
Why We Like It:
Weird, wonderful, and totally motionless — the Leaf Scorpionfish is a true oddball. Its incredible camouflage and stealthy behaviour make it a fascinating addition to species tanks or quiet reefs. Just don’t expect it to move much — that’s kind of the point.
