Description

Leopard Discosoma is a patterned mushroom coral covered in contrasting spots and irregular markings that give it its leopard-inspired appearance. As the fleshy disc expands, the pattern spreads across the surface, making each individual mushroom slightly different.

Discosoma are corallimorphs rather than stony corals. They're close relatives of reef-building corals but don't produce a hard skeleton, allowing the entire animal to remain soft, flexible and capable of dramatically expanding and contracting.

Why We Like It

It's all about the pattern. Rather than relying on a single fluorescent colour, Leopard Discosoma have loads of fine detail that rewards a closer look. As they multiply, the repeated spotted pattern can create a fantastic little mushroom garden.

Care Notes

A hardy, photosynthetic mushroom that generally prefers lower light and gentler flow. Direct feeding isn't required, although it can make use of fine suspended foods. Once established, Discosoma can reproduce readily and gradually form a larger colony.
