Description

Long Polyp Toadstool Neon is a brightly coloured Sarcophyton leather coral selected for its unusually long, fluorescent polyps. When fully extended, the polyps create a soft, almost grassy appearance across the cap and add far more movement than you would normally expect from a Toadstool.

Toadstools have a distinctive mushroom-like growth form, developing a stalk topped by an increasingly broad cap as they mature. The visible polyps are feeding structures extending from the surface of the colony, and long-polyp varieties can look dramatically different depending on whether those polyps are open or retracted.

Why We Like It

This isn't just a standard Toadstool with a bit more colour. The combination of neon fluorescence and genuinely long polyps gives it loads of movement and makes a mature colony look almost like a completely different type of coral. You still get the hardy, substantial growth that makes Toadstools such good reef inhabitants.

Care Notes

A hardy, photosynthetic soft coral that doesn't require direct feeding. Moderate varied flow encourages good extension and helps it naturally shed its surface layer. Toadstools periodically close and develop a smooth or waxy appearance before shedding a thin film and reopening ? normal behaviour for a healthy leather coral.
