Type: Soft Coral
Scientific Name: Capnella sp.
PAR: 50?150
Flow: Low to moderate, varied flow
Placement: Low Third to Mid Third
Description
Neon Green Capnella is a brightly fluorescent form of the classic Kenya Tree Coral. It develops a branching, tree-like structure covered in small polyps, with flexible branches that gently sway in the surrounding flow.
Like other soft corals, Capnella doesn't produce a solid stony skeleton. Its body contains microscopic calcium carbonate structures called sclerites, providing support while allowing the colony to remain flexible. Mature Capnella can also reproduce by naturally dropping small branches which may attach and develop into new colonies.
Why We Like It
It's everything that's good about a Kenya Tree ? hardy, fast growing and full of movement ? but with much stronger colour. The neon green makes it far more noticeable in a colourful reef, and as it grows it develops into a proper branching colony rather than just a small fluorescent patch.
Care Notes
A hardy, photosynthetic soft coral that doesn't require direct feeding. It adapts well to a broad range of reef conditions and can grow quickly once established. Mature colonies may naturally drop branches, so it's worth allowing for its ability to spread as the coral develops.
