Neon Green Mushroom (Rhodactis)

Type: Mushroom Coral

Scientific Name: Rhodactis sp.

PAR: 50?150

Flow: Low to moderate

Placement: Low Third

Description

Neon Green Rhodactis Mushroom is an intensely fluorescent mushroom coral with a textured, fleshy disc covered in small tentacle-like structures. Under blue-spectrum reef lighting the green can become exceptionally bright, making even a relatively small mushroom stand out strongly against the surrounding rockwork.

Mushroom corals are corallimorphs rather than true stony corals. They are close relatives of reef-building corals but don't produce a hard calcium carbonate skeleton, allowing the entire animal to remain soft and flexible.

Why We Like It

Maximum colour without complicated care. Neon green is one of those colours that absolutely glows under reef lighting, and the textured surface of a Rhodactis gives you much more detail than a simple smooth mushroom. As they multiply, they can develop into a fantastic fluorescent mushroom garden.

Care Notes

A hardy, photosynthetic coral that generally prefers lower light and gentler flow than many LPS and SPS corals. Direct feeding isn't required, although larger Rhodactis can capture suitably sized meaty foods. Established mushrooms may reproduce by splitting or producing new individuals around their base.
