Pearlscale Butterflyfish
Chaetodon xanthurus
The Pearlscale Butterflyfish is a beautifully patterned marine fish, instantly recognisable by its delicate pearl-like markings, yellow tail and bold black saddle marking. Active and constantly on the move, it brings elegance and colour to larger marine aquariums.
This species is best suited to fish-only or carefully planned community marine aquariums. Like many butterflyfish, it naturally feeds on a variety of small invertebrates and coral polyps in the wild, making it unsuitable for most reef aquariums containing ornamental corals or delicate invertebrates.
Provide plenty of mature live rock for grazing, along with open swimming space. Once established, the Pearlscale Butterflyfish is generally hardy and readily accepts a varied prepared diet.
