Peppermint Shrimp
Scientific Name: Lysmata wurdemanni (or closely related species)
Small Fish Safe: Yes
Invert Safe: Yes
Coral Safe: Generally yes – may occasionally nip if underfed
Adult Size: Up to 5 cm
Diet: Omnivore – eats detritus, leftover food, and may consume aiptasia
Why We Like It:
Peppermint Shrimp are popular for their natural appetite for pest aiptasia anemones. Small, peaceful, and reef-safe in most setups, they also help with general clean-up duties. Best results are seen when kept in groups and not overfed, encouraging natural scavenging and pest control. An excellent addition to reef tanks needing both function and subtle movement.
