Red Dreams Chalice Coral Care | The Happy Reef

Red Dreams Chalice is a colourful encrusting LPS coral selected for its rich red tones and contrasting pattern. "Chalice" is a hobby trade term covering corals from several different genera rather than a single species, and named colour morphs such as Red Dreams cannot reliably be identified to species from the trade name alone.

Chalices are excellent corals for bringing intense colour into the lower areas of a reef. Once established they gradually encrust across the rockwork, with their colours often looking particularly impressive under blue-spectrum reef lighting.

Scientific Name: Chalice coral ? exact genus and species cannot reliably be determined from the trade name alone.

PAR: 75?150

Flow: Low to moderate. Provide enough water movement to prevent debris settling without directly blasting the fleshy tissue.

Placement: Low Third

Feeding: Beneficial but not essential. Chalices are photosynthetic but can capture small meaty foods and suitable coral foods. Occasional target feeding when the feeding tentacles are extended can help support growth.

Care Notes: Leave plenty of space between the chalice and neighbouring corals. Chalices can extend sweeper tentacles, particularly after dark, and are capable of delivering a strong sting. Stable alkalinity, calcium and magnesium are important for continued skeletal growth. If moving the coral into considerably brighter lighting, increase its light exposure gradually rather than immediately placing it under high PAR.
