Six-Line Wrasse
Pseudocheilinus hexataenia
Origin: Indo-Pacific – Indonesia, Philippines, Great Barrier Reef, Fiji
Size: Up to 12 cm
Reef Compatibility:
Diet: Carnivore – feeds on small crustaceans, worms, and copepods; readily accepts mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other meaty frozen foods.
Care Level: Moderate – requires a mature, stable reef aquarium with plenty of hiding spaces.
Aggression: Semi-aggressive – territorial toward similar wrasses and sometimes small fish; peaceful with larger tankmates.
Captive-Bred Available: ❌ No
Notes:
The Six-Line Wrasse is a colourful, active wrasse with six horizontal blue lines running along a reddish-orange body. It is excellent at pest control, hunting small crustaceans such as bristle worms. Best kept in aquariums with ample rockwork and a secure lid, as it may jump.
Why We Like It:
Hardy, vibrant, and functional, the Six-Line Wrasse adds colour, energy, and biological control to the reef. Its pest-eating habits make it a favourite among reef keepers.
