Description

Sunny D Yuma Mushroom is a bright, warm-coloured Ricordea with the densely packed bubble-like vesicles that give Yumas their distinctive textured appearance. Its mix of vivid orange, yellow and contrasting fluorescent tones gives it the citrus colour palette behind the Sunny D name.

One useful way to distinguish Ricordea yuma from its Caribbean relative Ricordea florida is around the mouth. On Yumas, the bubble-like vesicles continue right up towards the mouth, while R. florida typically has a smoother area immediately surrounding it.

Why We Like It

Sunny D packs an enormous amount of colour into a small coral. The warm orange and yellow tones combined with the heavily textured surface make it look almost illuminated under reef lighting, and the pattern becomes even more impressive as the mushroom grows.

Care Notes

Yumas generally prefer moderate to lower lighting and gentler flow. They are photosynthetic and don't require direct feeding, although they can capture suitably sized foods. Once settled and growing well, they can reproduce by division and produce additional mushrooms around the original.
