Trachyphyllia Coral Care | The Happy Reef

Trachyphyllia, commonly known as an Open Brain Coral, is a large, fleshy LPS coral that makes a fantastic feature on the sandbed. Its heavily folded mantle can inflate dramatically once settled, often making the living coral look considerably larger than the skeleton hidden underneath.

Unlike many of the corals we keep in reef aquariums, Trachyphyllia is free-living rather than permanently attached to the reef. In the wild it is typically found resting on soft or sandy substrates, making the sandbed its natural home in an aquarium.
